The Definitive Guide to Monty Don's Gardening Tools

Monty Don Gardening Tool is the internet's most comprehensive resource dedicated to one simple question: what tools does Monty Don actually use? We watch every episode of Gardeners' World, read every book, comb through every interview, and cross-reference every fleeting glimpse of a tool handle or blade to build the most accurate catalogue possible. Our guides do not guess. They identify specific makes and models, explain why Monty favours them, and point you to reputable retailers where you can buy the very same tools.

We created this site because we found ourselves endlessly searching for the same information. Which trowel is that? Where can you buy the exact spade he uses? What brand are those secateurs? The answers were scattered across forums, social media posts, and half-remembered episodes. We decided to bring it all together in one place, written clearly, organised logically, and kept up to date as new series air and Monty's toolkit evolves.

The Gardener

Who Is Monty Don?

Montagu Denis Don, OBE, is Britain's best-known and most-loved gardener. He has presented BBC Gardeners' World since 2003, broadcasting each week from Longmeadow, his two-acre garden in Ivington, Herefordshire. Through the programme, his books, and his travels, Monty has inspired millions of people to pick up a trowel and get their hands in the soil. He is the author of more than twenty books, including The Complete Gardener, Down to Earth, and My Garden World.

Beyond television, Monty is a passionate advocate for gardening as therapy and for the connection between gardens and mental health. He has spoken openly about his own struggles with depression and how working in the garden has been central to his recovery. He was awarded an OBE in 2018 for services to horticulture, broadcasting, and charity. This site is an independent tribute to his influence and a practical resource for anyone who wants to garden with the same tools he trusts.

Our Standards

Editorial Approach

Every tool featured on this site has been verified through primary sources. We confirm identifications by cross-referencing broadcast footage, published photographs, interviews, and Monty's own writing. Where we are uncertain about a specific make or model, we say so clearly rather than speculate. We do not accept payment from manufacturers to feature their products, and no brand has editorial influence over our content. Our recommendations are based solely on what Monty Don demonstrably uses and what our own research supports as the best options in each category.

We update our guides regularly. Tool models change, prices fluctuate, and retailers come and go. When a new series of Gardeners' World airs, we review every episode for new tool sightings and update our catalogue accordingly. Accuracy and honesty are the foundation of everything we publish.

Affiliate Disclosure

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. This means that if you click through and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. This income helps us maintain the site, fund our research, and keep our guides free for everyone. Affiliate partnerships never influence which tools we recommend or how we write about them. We identify every tool independently first and only then look for reputable retailers. If we cannot find a trustworthy affiliate link, we still feature the tool and suggest where to buy it without any commission. Our loyalty is to the reader, not to any retailer or manufacturer.
